Defensive Adjustments for Madden 19




Defensive Coverage Adjustments:


Everything revolves around the Triangle/Y button. So to activate coverage adjustments, you will start by pressing the Triangle/Y button, then to make adjustments to the entire defensive core, you follow it up by using the thumb-stick:

Right Thumb-stick:


  • Up - Overtop (Cloud Flats)
  • Down - Underneath (Hard Flats)
  • Left - Inside
  • Right - Outside

Left Thumb-stick:


  • Up - Give Cushion
  • Down - Press
  • Left - Show Blitz
  • Right - Base Align




If you want to make Individual adjustments for a certain WR, you will hit Triangle/Y then you will press X on PS4 or A on Xbox. Now you will select the receiver you want to make an adjustment for. Once you select the WR, TE, or RB, you can choose to the coverage type using the Right Thumb-stick:


  • Up: Back Off
  • Down: Press
  • Left: Shade Left
  • Right: Shade Right







Additionally you can also spotlight the receiver as an individual adjustment as well:
X/A: Spotlight Receiver.


If you want to a make an adjustment for a single defensive back, and not an adjustment to the entire defensive back core, you can press Triangle/Y then press Triangle/Y again. Now select the corresponding button for the defensive back you want to manually adjust.


Keep in mind, different positions will have different adjustments that you are able to apply. A slot cornerback will have different individual adjustments than that of a strong safety, as an example.

Linebacker Adjustments:





Adjusting the Linebackers revolves around the R1/Right Bumper. Any adjustment to the Linebacker core will always start with R1/Right Bumper.

To control the entire Linebacker core, press R1/Right Bumper. Now you can make adjustments by using the Right and Left Thumb-stick.

Right Thumb-stick:

  • Up: Zone All
  • Down: Blitz All
  • Left: LOLB Blitz
  • Right: ROLB Blitz

Left Thumb-stick:

  • Up: Spread
  • Down: Pinch
  • Left: Shift Left
  • Right: Shift Right




To make adjustments to an individual Linebacker, you will start by pressing the R1/Right Bumper, then you will press R1/Right Bumper again. Now you will select the individual Linebacker that you want to adjust. You will make these adjustments by using the Right and Left Thumb-stick.


Keep in mind, Middle Linebackers will have different adjustments than Outside Linebackers. As an example, a MLB can go into a Hook Curl, and an OLB will have an option for a Hard Flat.


Defensive Lineman Adjustments:





Adjusting the Defensive Lineman revolves around the L1/Left Bumper. Any adjustment to the Linebacker core will always start with L1/Left Bumper.
To control the entire Defensive Lineman core, press L1/Left Bumper. Now you can make adjustments by using the Right and Left Thumb-stick.


Right Thumb-stick (Point of Attack):

  • Up: Slant Outside (Crash Up)
  • Down: Slant Inside (Crash Down)
  • Left: Slant Left (Crash Left)
  • Right: Slant Right (Crash Right)


Left Thumb-stick (Shift D-Line)
  • Up: Spread
  • Down: Pinch
  • Left: Shift Left
  • Right: Shift Right



To make adjustments to an individual Defensive Lineman, you will start by pressing the L1/Left Bumper, then you will press L1/Left Bumper again. Now you will select the individual Defensive Lineman that you want to adjust. You will make these adjustments by using the Right and Left Thumb-stick.

Keep in mind, Defensive Ends will have different adjustments than Defensive Tackles. As an example, a Right Defensive End can go into a Hard Flat, and a Defensive Tackle will have an option for a Hook Curl to the left or right.


Audibles and Clear Adjustments:





The Audible menu is pulled up by using the Square/X button, then select the play you wan to audible to by selecting the corresponding button.

To clear all adjustments, you will press the Square/X Button, then press L2/Left Trigger.

You can also flip your play by pressing the Square/X Button, then pressing R2/Right Trigger.
